Support Local, Eat Seasonal: Meet Dittmar Family Farms

At Inland Bays Garden Center, we’re always looking for ways to support our local community and help you live a more sustainable lifestyle. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Dittmar Family Farms as a new CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) pickup partner right here at the garden center.

Starting November 8, Bethany Beach and Frankford customers can pick up their weekly farm-fresh vegetable orders at Inland Bays Garden Center Saturdays from 10–11 AM, with deliveries running through April (except for the Saturdays after Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter).

This partnership is more than just convenient. It’s a way to connect with the people who grow your food and to invest in the health of our local food system.

Why Supporting Local Farms Matters

When you buy from a local farm like Dittmar Family Farms, you’re doing more than bringing home delicious produce. You’re helping strengthen our community. Local farms keep your food dollars circulating close to home, reduce the environmental footprint of long-distance shipping, and preserve open land for future generations.

Small family farms also take great care in how they grow, focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and natural growing methods that produce nutrient-rich food and healthier ecosystems.

The Benefits of Seasonal Eating

Seasonal eating means enjoying fruits and vegetables when they’re naturally at their peak: fresh, flavorful, and nutrient-dense. In the fall and winter months, that might mean crisp greens, hearty root vegetables, and sweet storage crops like carrots, beets, and squash.

By eating what’s in season locally, you’ll not only enjoy better-tasting food but also support more sustainable farming practices that follow nature’s rhythms.

The Story Behind Dittmar Family Farms

Jenny and Zach Dittmar are the heart behind Dittmar Family Farms, a small, family-run farm that grew out of a passion for real food and community.

Jenny, raised in Delaware, never imagined she would one day be living and working on a farm. But after years of struggling with food allergies, she found healing through natural, locally grown foods and a renewed appreciation for how fresh, chemical-free produce can nourish both body and mind.

Her husband Zach grew up in Wisconsin, where farming ran deep in his family roots. Though starting a farm once seemed out of reach, the couple discovered that small-scale, sustainable farming was not only possible but deeply rewarding. With hard work, research, and a dream they shared, Dittmar Family Farms became a reality in 2017.

Today, their farm embodies what community agriculture is all about: fresh, honest food grown with care and a direct connection between farmer and family.

How to Join the CSA

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, a model where members purchase a “share” of the farm’s harvest. Each week, you’ll receive a box of freshly picked, seasonal produce straight from Dittmar Family Farms. No middlemen, no long supply chains, just food grown with love right here in Delaware.

To learn more or sign up for the CSA, visit their website and choose Inland Bays Garden Center as your pickup location.
